Torsion vs. Extension Springs
Torsion Springs
Mounted on a bar above the door, torsion springs twist to lift the door's weight. Most modern doors use them. They're under extreme tension and should only be handled with the right winding bars and training.
Extension Springs
Mounted along the horizontal tracks, extension springs stretch and contract as the door moves. Older and lighter doors often use them — safety cables are a must, and we install them with every replacement.
